White Tree Inn is your home away from home, but some of your favorite moments may happen just beyond the front door. After more than 25 years in the area, Chris and Marie know the people, places, stories, and hidden gems worth discovering, and they’re happy to share them with you.
A house with a story to tell
While its exact age remains unknown, the home first appears on Sanborn (insurance) maps in 1908. It sits just in front of the former Catholic Church on 21st Street, before the church moved to Lexington in 1911. With its many bedrooms, some have wondered if the house once served as a nunnery, though no records confirm it.
From the 1920s through the 1940s, Jenny and J.W. Brown made the home a boarding house. Railroad conductor J.W., Jenny, and their daughters built a life around welcoming travelers. The girls even sold bag lunches to passengers at the railroad, just two blocks away.
Census records show the house welcomed all kinds of neighbors and travelers, including baseball coach Louis “Nubby” Schreiner, Dr. Robert Eason, railroad workers, and local clerks.
For more than a century, people have gathered, rested, and made memories within these walls. We’re happy to keep that tradition going.

Yes, the two bathrooms are shared. Each guest has access to shared bathroom spaces throughout the home, just like the rest of the common areas.
Yes, there is a kitchen. Guests are welcome to use it. It is a shared space with Marie, but you are always welcome to cook, prepare food, and make yourself at home.
Yes, pets are allowed at White Tree Inn. Just let Marie know ahead of time so she can get things ready for your furry friend.
Yes. White Tree Inn is Marie's own home, and she shares it with her guests. You will have your own private bedroom, but common areas like the kitchen and living spaces are shared with the host and other guests during your stay.
